Gouache and color pencil on paper

I investigate the nuances of identity to create animated gouache drawings. Stenciled forms adopted from Disney films are composited on translucent Mylar and paper. Baby boy blue appears frequently in my work, both in images of yarn, but also through my use of the traditional animation tool, non-photo blue pencil. Recurring motifs, such as hummingbirds originate from research into my Puerto Rican heritage and their link to folkloric narratives. Like literary practitioners of Magical Realism I'm interested in representing the fantastical as commonplace as my drawings are inspired by a child's unconscious ability to connect their realities to their fantasies.
