Liana Steinmetz grew up in Marin County, California, where she developed a strong connection and appreciation for her natural surroundings. Her love for the outdoors matched with her affinity of fine art has driven her toward a career in landscape painting. Full of bright colors and warm light, her paintings speak of her lively connection to the landscape. Liana works both on location outdoors and in her studio. However, Liana prefers the fresh, energetic quality brought to a painting from the spontaneous experience of painting plein air.

"When I see a landscape that is beautiful to me, my heart jumps out of my chest and I want to be the land. I want to be the rain, the wind, the clouds. I want to be something huge and feel the land everywhere, all at once. However I am just a human in a tiny body. So I humbly accept my place and do what I am able to do to show my gratitude and awe for the land - I paint it."

Liana has traveled nationally and internationally to paint and exhibit her work. She has received many artist in residence award placements across the United States. Most recently, in the winter of 2012, Liana spent three months in San Miguel de Allende, where she enjoyed painting the high desert landscape of Mexico.
