Most of my recent paintings are inspired by adventures in California and New Mexico. I sketch and take photographs while traveling or while home in San Francisco. Many of these ideas are mentally filed away or preserved in my sketchbook; some make it to my canvas in the form of a painting.

Studies of line, color and contrast, these works focus on the meeting point of mountain and lake, tree and sky, mesa and plain. This is a way for me to focus on a small detail while also thinking of what the painting might look like as a whole. Bold paint colors are a way for me to express emotion felt while moving through different environments.

A native of California, I draw upon the rich variety of my surroundings. My travels in Europe and Latin America also inspire much of my subject matter and color choices.
